Staff Accountant

Job Description

In this role you will work directly with the local Regional Finance Manager (who is wonderful!) to support two different entities under our parent company umbrella – scrap processing locations out of the Milwaukee location  2-3 days/wk; and will support our Alpine locations & Milwaukee office near I-94 and Holt Ave just south of downtown the other 2-3 days/wk.  Hours are start time 7-8am, end time 4-5pm Mon – Fri.  Pay is $70-80K base + $3000 annual bonus multiplier. 

The hiring managers really want to see someone with a degree in finance or accounting and 3-5 yrs experience.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and direct all accounting activities for a stand-alone business as well as a region within the metal recycling business.
  • Manage day to day operations of existing cost accounting functions.
  • Assist with performance of monthly close activities.
  • Monitor metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers.
  • Prepare monthly analysis of cost of goods sold and operational expenses, providing explanations and business solutions to help mitigate risks.
  • Identify, investigate, and analyze potential financial and operational improvements.
  • Stringently monitor inventory and fixed assets.
  • Prepare capital request summaries/cost justifications.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Assist with annual inventory observations.
  • Prepare sales and use tax returns for all entities.
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms for all entities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with an excellent academic record.
  • Three to five years of experience in accounting including financial analysis experience.
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Preferred experience with percentage of completion and job costing.
  • Ability to collaborate cross functionally.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Annual travel requirement approximately 5-10%.
